Egremont and Sheffield: South Berkshires Fall Foliage Cannabis-Aware Day

The south Berkshires towns of Egremont and Sheffield run quieter than the Stockbridge corridor. Fall foliage here rewards a slower pace.

Egremont and Sheffield sit in the southwestern corner of the Berkshires, just over the Connecticut and New York lines. The villages run quieter than the Stockbridge-Lenox corridor, and the fall foliage here rewards a slower pace, with antique shops, covered bridges, and the upper Housatonic River as the day's anchors.

Sheffield, Antique Country

Sheffield's Main Street is the long-tenured antique-shopping corridor of the Berkshires, with a dozen shops running steady October calendars. The Sheffield Covered Bridge over the Housatonic is one of the older surviving bridges in Massachusetts and a worthwhile detour from the antique stretch. Massachusetts state law prohibits cannabis consumption in public spaces, including the bridge area and the antique-shop sidewalks.

Egremont, the Quieter Hill Town

Egremont sits a few miles north of Sheffield in the foothills, with the Old Mill restaurant and a small village green as its commercial center. The drive on Route 23 from Egremont west toward Hillsdale, NY runs through some of the better small-village foliage in the southern Berkshires. Adults 21+ planning the day should defer cannabis consumption to the inn or rental at the end of the drive, never during.

The Inn Evening

The smaller inns and B&Bs across Egremont and Sheffield make for a quieter overnight than the Lenox corridor. Verify licensed status via the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission at masscannabiscontrol.com before any dispensary visit. A cannabis-aware close here is a low-dose product after a fireside dinner, a slow walk to the porch, and an early bed before another quiet day.
