Dispensaries in Sheffield and South Egremont, MA: The Pass and Devine

The far southwest corner of Massachusetts has two independent licensed shops: The Pass, which grows its own in Sheffield, and Devine in South Egremont. Where they are, what to bring, and why nothing bought here crosses the line.

Dispensaries in Sheffield and South Egremont come down to two independent shops in the far southwest corner of Massachusetts: The Pass, a grow-and-sell operation on Route 7 in Sheffield, and Devine, a small shop at the crossroads of Routes 23 and 41 in South Egremont. Both are a short drive from the New York and Connecticut lines, which makes them the first licensed stores many South County visitors pass. For adults 21+, here is what to know about each, how they fit with the Great Barrington stores a few miles north, and the rules that matter in a corner of the state with two borders.

The Pass, Sheffield

  • Address: 1375 North Main Street (Route 7), Sheffield, MA 01257
  • License: listed on the Cannabis Control Commission's Where to Buy map as an adult-use retailer as of 2026
  • Hours: the store's site lists 9 AM to 8 PM Monday through Thursday and 8 AM to 8 PM Friday through Sunday
  • Entry: adults 21+ with valid government-issued photo ID

The Pass opened its retail store on July 17, 2020, founded by Berkshire residents Michael Cohen and Chris Weld around a farm-to-label idea: grow it, process it and sell it in Sheffield. The company describes itself as vertically integrated, with the flagship store next to its grow, and it sells its own Berkshire-grown flower alongside products from other growers. The menu runs through flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates, edibles, tinctures and topicals, and the site advertises weekly specials.

Devine, South Egremont

  • Address: 71 Main Street, South Egremont, MA 01258, at the junction of Routes 23 and 41
  • License: listed on the CCC's Where to Buy map as an adult-use retailer as of 2026
  • Hours: the store's site lists 8 AM to 7 PM daily
  • Ordering: browse and pre-order through the store's online shop

Devine has served the area since April 2022 and calls itself "The Mom & Pop Cannabis Shop." It is women-owned and Black-owned, and it runs pop-up events built around education and community rather than sales.

Which one fits your route

The two shops sit on the two main roads into South County from the south and west. Driving up Route 7 from Connecticut, The Pass is on the way, north of Sheffield center toward Great Barrington. Coming east on Route 23 from Hillsdale and the Taconic, Devine sits on the road into South Egremont, where Route 41 meets it.

Great Barrington, a few miles north of both, has more licensed stores, including Theory Wellness on Stockbridge Road and Farnsworth Fine Cannabis on Main Street. The dispensary directory carries current hours for the South County shops, and the Sheffield, Egremont and Great Barrington pages cover the towns.

What to bring and what it costs

  • ID. Adults 21+ only, with a valid government-issued photo ID. Massachusetts does not require residency, so a New York or Connecticut license or a passport works.
  • Limits. As of 2026, under H.5350, adults 21+ can buy and carry up to 2 ounces of flower, or its equivalent of 10 grams of concentrate or 1,000 mg of edibles.
  • Taxes. Adult-use sales carry the 10.75% state excise tax and 6.25% sales tax, plus up to 3% local tax where the town has adopted it.
  • Payment. Check each store's site before the trip; cash is the safe fallback.
  • Edibles. Start low, go slow. A low-milligram first serving and a long wait before any second one.

The rule, plainly

The Cannabis Control Commission, at masscannabiscontrol.com, publishes the state rules:

  • Massachusetts state law prohibits cannabis consumption in public spaces. The CCC spells it out as no smoking, vaping or eating cannabis in public places or on federal land.
  • An open container of cannabis in a car's passenger area is illegal. Keep purchases closed, in the trunk or a locked glove compartment.
  • Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal.
  • Crossing a state line with cannabis is illegal, even into New York or Connecticut, where adult-use is legal.

What it means in a border corner

Sheffield touches Connecticut, and Egremont touches New York. Plenty of visitors drive in from one state or the other, and nothing bought here can ride back across either line, however short the trip. Legal sales on the other side do not change that.

The open land around both towns is public or conservation property. In Sheffield, Bartholomew's Cobble, a Trustees of Reservations property, is a National Natural Landmark, and next to it stands the Colonel John Ashley House, built in 1735 and one of the oldest houses in southern Berkshire County. It is the house where Elizabeth Freeman, known as Mum Bett, was enslaved before she sued for her freedom. Southwest of Egremont, Mount Washington and Bash Bish Falls are state forest land. All of it is outdoors and public or nonprofit-owned, and none of it is a place for cannabis. Inns and short-term rentals set their own rules, and most ban smoking on the property.

South County in winter

Winter in Sheffield and Egremont is quiet and agricultural, with the farm stands closed and the fields under snow. Sheffield was incorporated in 1733 as the first town in what is now Berkshire County, two years before the Ashley House went up. Ski Butternut is a short drive north in Great Barrington for a snow day, and the events hub carries what is on across South County this season.

The short version

Sheffield and South Egremont each have one licensed dispensary as of 2026: The Pass at 1375 North Main Street in Sheffield, open since July 2020 beside its own grow, and Devine at 71 Main Street in South Egremont, open since April 2022. Great Barrington has more a few miles north. Bring ID, stay within 2 ounces, keep it closed in the car, and leave it in Massachusetts.
