Lee
Mass Pike exit-2 town, Jacob’s Pillow dance festival adjacency, and the most-trafficked Berkshires gateway from the east.
Lee is the Berkshires town the Mass Pike runs through — Exit 2 dumps drivers from Boston and points east directly into the heart of Lee on Main Street, making it functionally the eastern gateway for any Berkshires weekend. The town itself is smaller and more workmanlike than Lenox or Stockbridge nearby, but Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in nearby Becket (technically a separate town but historically the Lee summer-arts anchor) pulls international dance programming for ten weeks every summer. October Mountain State Forest provides the hiking-and-trail layer just south. Cannabis retail in Lee has settled in heavily — the town's I-90 visibility and lower property costs versus the resort towns west have attracted multiple licensed dispensaries. For visiting adults 21+, Lee works as either the supply stop on the way to a Lenox or Stockbridge weekend, or as a quieter base for a longer Berkshires stretch with day-trip access to everything west.
