Pittsfield

The county’s biggest city, the Colonial Theatre, the Barrington Stage, and the heaviest cannabis-retail concentration in the Berkshires.

Pittsfield is the Berkshires's only real city — a county seat with the population, food scene, and arts infrastructure (Colonial Theatre, Barrington Stage Company, Berkshire Museum) to support that scale. North Street is the spine, with restaurants and bars stretching north from the main square. The cannabis-retail footprint here is the densest in Berkshire County by a wide margin, in part because of the city's manufacturing and population base and in part because Pittsfield was an early adopter when Massachusetts opened the adult-use market in 2018. For visiting adults 21+ the city makes a workable hub: licensed dispensaries within easy walking distance of downtown hotels, restaurants that don't require dressing up, and a 20–30 minute drive to either Lenox or the Mount Greylock summit-loop trails to the north.
